Bloomsdale Excavating formed a contract with Unimin Sand to remove approximately 25,000 cubic yards of soil and 100,000 cubic yards of limestone each year, from 2003 through 2006. Bloomsdale kept stripping progression far enough ahead of plant production so Unimin’s raw silica sand product would not be contaminated. Vibrations caused by blasting were also kept within required limits. In 2006, Bloomsdale constructed a new tailings pond in conjunction with overburden removal. Material was not wasted, but utilized in an engineered fill/structure that had moisture and compaction requirements. This project was successfully completed on time and in budget for the client. “Unimin Corporation, a large industrial minerals producer and Bloomsdale Excavating have enjoyed a lengthy working relationship in the mining industry dating back to the late 1970’s. Bloomsdale has been instrumental in supplying the equipment, employees and engineering expertise required to complete numerous overburden-stripping projects and in the construction of retention ponds for tailings storage. Bloomsdale’s consistent commitment to the safety of their employees, the care of their equipment and the attention to detail during each of these recent projects has been instrumental in their ability to perform work for Unimin Corporation in the past, the present and in the future.”
