Project: Route 63, Hardy Bypass
Client: Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department
Location: Hardy, Arkansas
Timeline: July 2003-November 2005

Bloomsdale Excavating was the successful bidder on a bid-build project located in North Arkansas for the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department. The approximately $15 million project consisted of constructing 1.5 miles of a four-lane bypass of U.S. Route 63 around the town of Hardy, Arkansas, including the construction of one four-lane bridge that was 500 feet long. The project encompassed 50 acres of clearing and grubbing, 1,500,000 million cubic yards of unclassified excavation, 12,000 linear feet of storm sewer pipe, 86,000 tons of aggregate base, 50,000 tons of asphalt paving and 1,000 linear feet of concrete box culverts.

The excavation was performed utilizing a 14 cubic yard Caterpillar 5130 front shovel loading 100 ton Caterpillar end dumps. The rock cuts ranged up to 100 feet in depth. The aggregate base rock was produced on-site by crushing and screening the required rock excavations. Drilling and blasting operations had to be monitored very closely due to the project being within the city limits of Hardy, AR and the close proximity of commercial and residential buildings. Due to the environmentally sensitive surrounding area, erosion control was very critical on the project and was very carefully monitored and maintained during construction. Bloomsdale Excavating was able to complete this project on time and in budget for the client.
