Project: Boyd Branch Substation
Client: Ameren UE
Location: Jefferson County, Missouri
Timeline: May 2005-July 2005

Bloomsdale Excavating was awarded the contract to perform site grading for a new substation construction. This was a very steep and rugged site and Ameren relied on Bloomsdale to modify the design/layout of the site to accomplish a functional site for construction traffic, deliveries and permanent access. General site grading was staged in order to keep the site quantities of dirt and rock properly proportioned. The building pad required five feet of soil for proper installation of the substation’s grounding grid. This required Bloomsdale to stockpile and rehandle material while monitoring production, ensuring enough material was left to complete grading and have the dirt required for the grounding grid. Frequent site surveys and quantity analysis were performed by Bloomsdale crews. Erosion control was a primary concern on this project due to the county road bordering the site and the neighbor’s pond. Best Management Practices (BMPs) with erosion control were in place at all times and maintained after every rain event. Delicate blasting also took place on account of high voltage power lines adjacent to the site.

Bloomsdale Excavating was able to perform work safely, meet the schedule and help the client keep good public relations with their neighbors and Jefferson County Officials.
