Project: City of Rolla Flood Control Project
Client: City of Rolla
Location: Rolla, Missouri
Timeline: August 2005-April 2006

Bloomsdale Excavating constructed a series of dry detention basins throughout Rolla that will bring flood relief to some 200 existing homes that are now in flood prone areas. The innovative project not only provides for a metered release of run off during heavy rainfall events, but also provides much desired recreational facilities such as soccer fields, baseball fields, and park space. The concept is that these detention basins are constructed in the size and shapes of the desired athletic fields. When a major rainfall event occurs the playing surface is flooded for a period of a few hours then drains out and dries up as any other convention surface would. The dollars invested to provide much needed flood control has the added value of green space as well as a quality athletic field.

“The City of Rolla has been very pleased with the quality of work and past performance of Bloomsdale Excavating regarding the city’s storm water detention projects. And we are excited about working with them on this final phase of our flood control system.”

Steve Hargis, Director of Public Works
