The Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) created the Thomas M. Drury Award in 2007 to recognize independent contractors for outstanding efforts in miners’ safety and health and excellent achievement in accident and injury prevention in the South Central District. This annual award was created and named after Thomas M. Drury, then CEO of Bloomsdale Excavating and son of company founder Marvin Drury, in response to his efforts in establishing the industry’s first partnership between an independent contractor and MSHA.
